We had another vehicle in with a serious coolant leak, but luckily the customer acted fast. Coolant leaks are one of the most common issues we fix at our Newtownabbey garage, and if left untreated, they can cause major engine damage.
Your car’s cooling system is what stops the engine from overheating. It circulates coolant (also known as antifreeze) through the engine block and radiator to regulate temperature. When that coolant escapes — whether through a cracked hose, loose clamp, or failing component — your engine is left vulnerable.
In this case, the coolant was visibly leaking underneath the vehicle. If the customer had kept driving, it could have led to a breakdown or even a blown head gasket.
Here’s what can happen if a coolant leak is ignored:
