Another day, another mystery solved at 1Stop Motor Shop in Newtownabbey.

This vehicle came in with the engine warning light on and a noticeable loss of power. Straight away, we carried out diagnostics using our specialist equipment — including our boost leak smoke machine — to trace the root cause.

What did we find? A crack in the inlet manifold, allowing air to escape and causing a serious drop in performance.

How We Found the Fault

Using our smoke machine, we pressurised the intake system with harmless smoke. This helps us:

  • Spot air leaks instantly

  • Identify cracked hoses or components

  • Confirm boost leaks without guesswork

As soon as the smoke started to escape, the crack in the inlet manifold became obvious. That meant unmetered air was entering or escaping — triggering the engine light and reducing boost pressure.

Inlet Manifold Cracks: What to Look Out For

Common symptoms of a cracked or leaking inlet manifold include:

  • Engine warning light

  • Turbo not boosting correctly

  • Poor acceleration

  • Hissing or whistling sounds under load

  • Reduced fuel economy

  • Rough idle or misfire

How We Fixed It

Once diagnosed, we stripped down the intake system and replaced the damaged manifold with a new, high-quality part.

We then:

  • Cleared the fault codes

  • Road-tested the car

  • Ran post-repair diagnostics

Result? The car left driving like new — full power restored, and the customer back on the road.
