Ford EcoBoost wouldn’t start. We found the timing belt had stripped its teeth — a common fault on these engines. Free belt checks at 1Stop Motor Shop, Newtownabbey.
Another car in at 1Stop Motor Shop Newtownabbey that wouldn’t start — and we quickly found out why. The issue? No compression across multiple cylinders within the engine. The cause was a stripped timing belt on a Ford EcoBoost engine.
After inspecting this, we discovered the teeth on the timing belt had worn down and stripped away, meaning the camshaft and crankshaft were no longer in sync. This resulted in the engine failing to start and causing serious internal damage.
If you're driving a vehicle with a Ford EcoBoost engine, watch out for these symptoms:
Engine cranks but won’t start
Strange ticking noises from the engine
Oil leaks near the timing belt cover
Sudden loss of power
Misfires or rough idling
When the timing belt strips or snaps, your engine is no longer timed correctly, which can cause the pistons and valves to collide — leading to major engine damage.
EcoBoost engines use a wet belt system (timing belt in oil), which over time can break down due to oil contamination or lack of servicing. If the belt begins to deteriorate, the teeth can shear off, as shown in the photo above.
At 1Stop Motor Shop, we offer:
