A customer recently popped into 1Stop Motor Shop in Newtownabbey after noticing a grinding noise coming from the rear of their van. With our free brake health check — it didn’t take long to diagnose the issue.

Our inspection revealed that the rear brake pads and the brake discs were badly worn, as shown in the image. Ignoring it much longer could have led to brake failure or serious damage.

How to Spot Brake Wear Before It's Too Late

Brake components wear down gradually, but there are clear signs your brake pads or discs may be due for replacement:

  • Grinding or squealing noises

  • A soft or spongy brake pedal

  • Longer stopping distances

  • Vibration or pulsing during braking

  • Dashboard warning lights (in some cases)

This customer acted quickly — and saved themselves from a costly caliper or ABS repair later.

What We Did at 1Stop Motor Shop

Our team:

  • Removed the worn rear pads and discs

  • Fitted new quality components

  • Checked caliper operation and bled the brakes

  • Test drove the van to ensure smooth braking

Thanks to their quick visit and our free check, the customer left with safe, smooth, and responsive braking — and full peace of mind.
