A recent job at 1Stop Motor Shop involved a van that came in with poor performance and power loss. The driver reported sluggish acceleration and a louder engine than usual. Once we got the van in the workshop and inspected it from the back of the engine, the fault was obvious — a cracked manifold.

How a Cracked Manifold Affects Power

The exhaust manifold channels hot gases away from the engine. If there’s a crack, especially at the rear where visibility is low, it creates:

  • Loss of back pressure

  • Exhaust leaks

  • Increased turbo lag (if fitted)

  • Loud ticking or blowing noises

  • Decreased engine performance

In this case, the manifold was leaking due to a crack, and the exhaust gases were escaping before reaching the turbo and DPF system.

Symptoms of a Manifold Leak

If you're driving around Newtownabbey or Belfast, watch out for:

  • Reduced power or sluggish acceleration

  • Exhaust smell inside the cabin

  • Ticking sound on cold start

  • Decreased fuel economy

  • Engine management light (in some cases)

Fixing the Problem at 1Stop Motor Shop

We removed the damaged manifold, sourced a new OEM replacement, and fitted it with new gaskets and fasteners. The van was road tested, and it’s now driving perfectly — with power restored and no exhaust leaks.

No guesswork. Just proper diagnostics, repairs, and peace of mind.
