Ford Galaxy came in for MOT prep. Rear control arms were badly rusted with holes. New arms fitted at 1Stop Motor Shop, and the car passed MOT with no issues.
At 1Stop Motor Shop, we recently helped a Ford Galaxy owner get through their MOT after identifying a serious safety issue. During our MOT prep inspection, we spotted extensive rust and even visible holes in the rear control arms.
This kind of corrosion is an instant MOT failure — but we got it sorted quickly with a new pair of control arms fitted to the rear of the vehicle.
The rear control arm is a key suspension component that helps keep the wheel aligned with the chassis. It plays a major role in handling, tyre wear, and overall road safety. If rust eats through the arm, it can:
Lead to wheel misalignment
Cause unstable or unsafe handling
Risk suspension collapse
Fail an MOT due to structural weakness
In the images, you can clearly see rust perforation and flaking metal, exposing the car to major safety issues.
Living and driving around Newtownabbey and Belfast, cars are exposed to:
Road salt during winter
Wet and coastal climates
Poor road drainage and potholes
This speeds up rust and corrosion — especially on suspension components like control arms, springs, and subframes.
We replaced the rusted rear arms with new OEM-spec parts, secured everything with new fasteners, and re-checked suspension geometry. Once completed, the Galaxy passed its MOT without any further advisories.
Another safe, roadworthy car back with its owner — and peace of mind all round.
